The National Hurricane Center issued its first advisory of the 2009 season, announcing the development of Tropical Depression One in the Atlantic ocean.

On Wednesday, the precipitation surrounding the center of this storm was diminishing and the NHC actually planned on issuing its last statement on what was then just a special feature.

Convection increased with the system Thursday as it was being fed by the Gulf stream, which is basically a thin stream of warm water.

Since the storm will be in an environment where wind shear will be weak, the Hurricane Center is forecasting it to become a tropical storm (Ana) by Friday.

It has already become the first system of 2009, developing four days before the official start of the tropical season.

T.D. One is moving northeastward -- away from the United States -- and will eventually track into the cooler waters of the northern Atlantic. Once this occurs, the storm should fall apart.
