Hurricane Season 2009 has been a quiet one...something that we can more than likely blame on the old stand-by...El Nino flaring back up.  However, the official season does not end until November 30th..and here this morning, after a quiet couple of months...we meet Category 1 Hurricane Ida with max. sustained winds of 75mph.

Ida (as of Thursday morning) is making landfall over Nicaragua and headed for Honduras.  If she can hold together well enough over the mountains, there is a chance that she'll re-form as a Tropical Storm and move towards the Gulf of Mexico. 

What does that mean for us here in South Texas?  Well...pretty much nothing.  As it looks, our next upper-level trough and associated cold front, due in about the Monday/Tuesday time frame, should shunt Ida's moisture and development off to our east.  What we are watching is a few showers and storms in the Bay of Campeche that looks to spread some tropical moisture into the Brazos Valley this weekend.  That will give us a slight chance of rain Sunday and Monday...but as of today those chances only were around 20-30% at best. 

Our long range models, however, do hint that Florida could be in for some flooding rains in the week ahead.  As the remnants of Ida mix and push east with the tropical moisture that will give us our chance for rain, the two together spell out the possibility for some soggy oranges in the Sunshine State.
