I'm so thankful to be a part of this community

Once again the Brazos Valley stepped up to the plate to help those in need.

Once again the Brazos Valley stepped up to the plate to help those in need. As many of you know, KBTX partnered with United Way Wednesday for "United We Help," a fundraiser for residents in our area affected by Hurricane Ike. The entire event was put together in 24 hours--which is amazing in itself, but what is truly amazing is the amount raised in just one day. The grand total was $110,000. Isn't that incredible?

I was at the Brazos Center Wednesday evening, and I had the chance to talk to some of the generous residents in our community. It may be no surprise to many of you that this community really knows how to give, but seeing it first hand fills your heart. One woman said she was watching KBTX before she went to bed and saw us live at the Brazos Center. She said she was in her pajamas, but changed, just so she could make it to the Brazos Center before the fundraiser ended.

Several people that turned out to give had little themselves, but donated just enough to brighten someone's day. I heard several people say "I only have a little something to give," but those small donations added up to something big.

I know I've said this numerous times during our Hurricane Ike coverage, but generosity is truly at the heart of this community. I'm not quite sure that other communities would react in the same way--even though I hope they would.

I just can't say how many times I was overjoyed Wednesday to see a community coming together so quickly to achieve something so grand.

Thank you Brazos Valley for your generosity. I'm so thankful to be part of this community--I'm sure many of you feel the same way!
