Went on a "Staycation" and Loved it

This weekend Shane and I decided we needed to get away. We had the perfect opportunity. I was hosting a baby shower in Dallas for my college roommate, so we thought why not make a weekend of it? Since we just bought our first house, we decided not to take a vacation this summer. But, a weekend we could do.

My "saving you money" segment is really rubbing off on me, so I didn't want to go unless we could do it on a shoestring...and we did. We went through Priceline for the hotel room and got a four star room at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Dallas for $54. You can't beat that. Plus, the Hyatt is a museum in itself. It's a beautiful hotel and it has pictures of Dallas throughout the years up down the hallways on the first floor. We enjoyed looking at the photos, plus there are several plaques describing different moments in Dallas history. We had no idea this was at the hotel-we just stumbled upon a free museum. Shane is a huge history buff, so he loved it. We also walked down to Dealey Plaza where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. If you've never been, there are several newspaper articles on a plaque nearby. You can read about the assassination. It was a definitely a somber, yet educational experience.

That night, we had dinner in downtown. We received a gift card as a wedding present, so we put it to good use. If you're looking for a unique wedding gift idea, restaurant gift cards are nice. We were able to celebrate our four month anniversary.

The next day we walked around downtown and took our time making it back to B-CS. We stopped in Calvert to check out the antique shops and sampled the chocolate at COCOAMODA. It was great. We had to splurge and bring some home.

We really enjoyed our inexpensive weekend away. It's no wonder why "staycations" are becoming so popular. There are some really neat, free things to do close to home.

Here's a link to a list of free attractions in Texas..hopefully you'll be able to put this to good use this summer.

If you've taken a "staycation," I'd love to hear about it.

Until later,

Meredith
