Concerts Of The Past & Present

Back 20-25 years ago (when my age said I was barely a man, but my habits said otherwise) I would go to a couple of concerts a year. My tastes have always been varied, from Michael Jackson & the Victory Tour to Van Halen, Rush, Sting/Police, Alabama, George Strait, Simply Red, etc, etc.

Back 20-25 years ago (when my age said I was a man, but my habits said otherwise) I would go to a couple of concerts a year.  My tastes have always been varied, from Michael Jackson & the Victory Tour to Van Halen, Rush, Sting/Police, Alabama, George Strait,  Simply Red, etc, etc.  Back then $25 got me a pretty good seat. As my 30’s turned to 40’s and the price of ticket went up accordingly it was Shania Twain, Billy Joel/Elton John (Great Concert) and now, more recently (and more affordable) Robert Earl Keene, Kevin Fowler, Pat Greene.

Friday December 12th I get to revisit my youth with the possibility of going to see AC/DC play in San Antonio.  My companion will be my 14-year-old son Geoffrey. Geoffrey loves what is now described as Classic Rock. It was mainstream rock at the time.  Pink Floyd,  AC/DC, Rush, Van Halen, Def Leopard, etc, etc are all groups that fill his I-pod and his mind.  So, as you can imagine we have lots to talk about nowadays.  From time to time as we head out to dinner, movie or after one of his football games he’ll pass me an ear bud to see if I’ve ever heard this song or that one.  Usually, not only have I heard the songs, I can often tell him where I was and what I was doing the first time I really appreciated the song. Sometimes I can even tell him the cologne I had on or the perfume of the girl I was with.  It is amazing how music can stimulate your memory.

So Friday night, I hope to relive my teen years with my own teen.  Tickets range from $350-$600 per ticket for something that is not nosebleed. ( that’s 4 to 5 times face value and something I can’t afford) Our plan is to hang out at the venue and see what we can get for the tickets once the first song is played.  I would love to create some new memories with the music of AC/DC playing in the background.  If not, just hanging out with my teenage son, haggling over - over priced tickets, will truly create some memories of their own.  Then And Now
