August 2010 -- Warmest Month on Record

Updated: Wed 1:39 PM, Sep 01, 2010

This August will go down in the record books as one of the warmest months ever in the Brazos Valley, tied for first place with July 2009. The mercury topped 100 on 22 days in August, and only one day had a high below 99 degrees.

If you thought this August was hot, you have a lot of company.  If you thought it was record heat, you are right on the money.  The average of all the high and low temperatures in August comes out to 89.1 degrees, tying July 2009 as the warmest month ever recorded in the Brazos Valley.  And records have been kept for our area since 1901.

The high temperature was 100 degrees or higher for 22 days in August, with only one day registered a high less than 99 degrees.  The hottest afternoon was 107 on two of those days, which ended up setting a new record on the 24th.  Low temperatures were just as unbearable, with the record high minimum temperature (the warmest low temperature for the day) tied or broken on ten of those days.

ALL-TIME WARMEST MONTHS IN BRYAN/COLLEGE STATION:

1)  Aug 2010 / July 2009 -- 89.1 Degrees

2)  July 1998 -- 88.6 Degrees

3)  Aug 1951 -- 88.5 Degrees

4)  July 1996 -- 87.9 Degrees

Here's to hoping September treats us better!
