Its been a busy month, at least for North and West Texas, in the winter weather category.  We are fresh on the heels of last weeks blizzard-like conditions that crippled I-20 and Hwy 287 just at the start of the Christmas Travel Season.  And once again Winter Weather Advisories are up for the same parts of the state. 

Here at home, over the past few days, it's been right on the line as to if we would see any frozen precipitation in our backyard today (Tuesday).  As of this morning, consistency has it and we'll call for the bulk of the activity being good 'ol fashion rain to fall, with a small chance of some small sleet pellets to mix in early in the afternoon.  To your right is the SKEW-T chart for College Station, which is what we use to decide things like rain/snow/sleet, or during the spring, it helps to show if there is a chance of severe weather.  (Basically, its the atmosphere mapped out onto your computer screen.)  Notice how both lines at the bottom are just to the right of that diagonal "0" line.  That means dewpoints and temperatures are forecast to be above freezing, leaving rain as the solution for today....however, not to say a little sleet can't be a fighter and make it to the ground.  Should this happen, ground and air temperatures are above freezing, meaning any winter precip that does fall should melt on contact.

That is, all except in northern counties.  Milam, Robertson and Leon Counties, having thinner cloud cover over night and therefore below freezing temperatures this morning, may be able to hold on to a pocket of cold air long enough to see a little light snow/rain mix as precipitation begins to fall from the sky.  As moisture increases in the lower levels and dewpoints rise, we should all expect, and for some make the switch, to a cold rain as our latest upper-level systems chugs across the area.
