After a colder than normal winter and a spring that has kept temperatures close to where they should be, it looks we'll turn on the heater for the first time in 2010.  That's right folks, the first of a couple 90 degree days are in in the forecast this week!

After one last disturbance passes through The Lone Star State by tonight, the jet stream will run begin to run "zonal" or flat across the United States.  Basically, it'll act as a fence and keep the next few weather makers out of the Pacific Northwest well to our north.  At the same time, our old friend (and I use the term "friend" lightly here) the sub-tropical ridge of high pressure begins to creep in from the south and settle just across South Texas. 

All this together, mixed with plenty of sunshine, will have much of the Brazos Valley reaching the 90s by mid-week.  Not much in the way of rain heading this way either. A weak front will try to reach our backyard by week's end...however, by the looks of it, I wouldn't hold your breath on getting the yard watered for free by Mother Nature. 

The good news is even with well above-normal daytime highs slated for this week, we should stay clear of hot record highs set in years past.

So enjoy the sun, enjoy the first lick of heat, and make sure you have plenty of water on hand if you plan to spend most of the afternoon outdoors!
