Back to Typical Summer / Looking At 4th of July Plans

Updated: Mon 6:36 PM, Jul 02, 2012

Great to have some much needed rain fall across the Brazos Valley over this past weekend -- and with highs only topping off in the upper 80s to low 90s at the tail end of June / first day of July, we're hard pressed to find anyone that had major qualms with this past weekend's weather.

Rain is welcomed all across this great State of Texas -- but the deep, southern portion of the state got a good bulk of the activity streaming in from the Gulf of Mexico.  Here's a look at some of the rain totals reported in to the Corpus Christi National Weather Service:

Typical Summertime

Not many surprises from the normal headed our way here in the Brazos Valley.  High pressure is the general rule aloft -- however, it doesn't have that strong of a hold on Texas and especially our weather pattern.  That being said, high pressure at the surface over the Southeastern US will continue to drive Gulf moisture in our direction.

The result? Partly to mostly cloudy skies, high temperatures running close to where they are supposed to be for early July and the slight chance of an afternoon shower / thunderstorm or two each and everyday.  Any rain will likely blow in from the south due to the sea breeze -- and slowly fall apart as they do.  As with most afternoon shower activity, if we find more high to mid-level clouds overhead from mid afternoon to the evening, our rain chances will be less likely than that of a sunnier day.  We'll call it a 20% chance for rain each day (with the exclusion of Friday and Saturday -- for now).

4th of July Forecast

Still looking good for those Independence Day plans overall.  Highs will run between 94 to 97 under a good mix of sun & clouds.  Morning activities will be humid and possibly a bit cloudy -- but we should see those clouds scatter out.  By the afternoon, ol' Glory will have a good breeze to stand up in as winds could gust upwards of 20mph from the south.  As for those afternoon BBQ & evening firework plans -- just know there MAY be a few showers or isolated thunderstorm rolling through...but nothing that looks to stick around for too long!
