It is that time of the year when I can only think about two things: Weather and Fightin' Texas Aggie Football. This year its been hot, but there are some ties to this heat that just could have some implications for the Maroon and White -- Go with me on this....
We are currently chasing the record of most 100° days in one calendar year. The old record is set at 58 days in 1917. So far, College Station has racked up 52 days in 2011. Our current 7 day forecast has the next 6 days at or above 100° and then drops temperatures to 99° next Thursday. By this point we would TIE the all time record -- set in 1917.
Thursday morning's rainfall helped keep yesterday's daytime high at 96°, thus ending our running streak of 100° days that started on July 30th. With 26 straight days of 100° or better, we TIED the 2nd place record of consecutive 100° days. Anyone want to guess what year we tied with? Yes....you in the back with your hand up. That's right. 1917
So by this point you are probably thinking, "...and your point is?" Well here we go --

Whoop? Not saying that if the 7 day forecast stays as is, that we wouldn't hit 100° any other time this year...but the parallels are there.
Coincidence? Maybe. Something to hang your maroon hat on? Sure. Wishful thinking from The Proudest Member of the Ol' Army Class of 2007? You bet'cha! Gig 'em Aggies! We'll see you at Kyle Field!
