Our latest cold front sagged into the Brazos Valley today.  While it took a bit for that cooler air to get here, after the initial wind shift, we starting cooling off pretty rapidly by 4pm this afternoon.

Scattered freezing temperatures will likely be found across parts of the Brazos Valley by first thing Saturday morning.  For those that aren't officially down to freezing, you'll be close as lows sink into the low-to-mid 30s.  Frost will be possible in a few locations, along with some cars covered in frozen water droplets after tonight's light rain.

While we don't expect a hard freeze this weekend, you'll want to make sure that the furry friends have a warm spot to cuddle up for the night and cover / bring in any tender vegetation that you may have started working on in advance to Spring.

Sunny Weekend Ahead:

High pressure will help clear out the clouds that are on hand this evening.  Sunshine and a mildly cool day is expected on Saturday.  Highs are expected to top off in the upper 50s to extremely low 60s: 

By Sunday, southerly winds return and turn breezy (10-15mph, with gusts upwards of 20mph).  That should help crank afternoon highs back up around the 70° mark to wrap up the weekend.  Moisture will start to collect again which will set us up for the weather story of next week -- scattered rain chances.

Progressive Weather Pattern: 

We've got two cold fronts on schedule for next week.  As of this evening, we'll pin those down for Monday afternoon / evening and then again on Thursday.  

Monday's cold front will be a shot of re-reinforcing cool air.  Ahead and along of that front, we'll hold a 30% chance of scattered showers / isolated thunderstorm.  The downside to rain chances with this front is that there will be a bit of a CAP in the atmosphere (hindering shower / storm development) along with the fact that the upper-level support for this front will be well to the north of Texas.

    Thursday's cold front looks a bit more promising for bringing a line of rain / thunderstorms to the area.  We'll currently call it a 50% chance (pending changes to the forecast over the next several days).  The upper-level support with this front should slide across Kansas / Oklahoma, which is a bit more promising for rain development.

We will have to monitor this system as the latest extended computer models brings this system through with a negative tilt.  When storm systems are tilted to the left, they typically can create scenarios for a round of severe weather.  Nothing set in stone, but something to monitor through the weekend and into the beginning of next week.
