Friday Blog: Holiday Weekend Rain & Cold

Print
Updated: Fri 10:49 AM, Dec 23, 2011

Chilly and cloudy once again across the Brazos Valley this Friday morning now that our latest cold front has passed through last night.  Highs this afternoon will be on the chilly side with highs struggling to climb into the low to mid 50s area wide.  Factor in a breezy north wind at 10-15mph, gusting upwards of 20mph from time to time, and it will most likely only feel like the upper 40s as we wrap up this Friday.  Heading to Grandma's house in the state today, road conditions should be good for most of Texas -- there have been reports of snow starting to fly around El Paso.

Christmas Eve Rain

Last minute Christmas shopping?  Plans to head to Christmas Eve mass or Candlelight Services? Maybe just driving around looking at Christmas lights?  Either which way, be sure to include an umbrella and coat in those plans.  Our next upper level rain maker looks to really take over the Brazos Valley the later you go into the day Saturday and could possibly even last into Christmas morning (more on that below).  While we are not expecting a solid rain, like Wednesday night / Thursday morning, there will be light to moderate showers off and on heading into the evening.

Heading West? Better check with TxDot on road conditions.  Looks like Snow could fly anywhere from El Paso to Big Bend to San Angelo / Midland  to Lubbock.

Christmas Sunday Forecast

Rain could very well still be falling on Sunday morning.  A few of those computer models dry things up by Sunday morning -- however, with how slow this system is crawling to the east, would not be surprised to find rain falling in parts of the area, especially the Eastern Brazos Valley.  By afternoon, it looks like a few sun's rays peek out from behind that cloud cover -- but we'll remain chilly with highs only reaching the 50s yet again.

Most importantly have a safe and Very Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays with you and yours. We'll check back in with you on Monday morning.  God Bless.
