Friday Blog: Weekend Umbrellas Likely Needed

Updated: Fri 1:12 PM, Aug 17, 2012

Big weekend for the Brazos Valley with a whole lot of things on schedule to take place.  With all of the events going on -- of course, some of the best rain chances we have seen in about a month are forecasted for the weekend.

Not that the weekend will be a complete washout -- but there will be the likelihood of pockets of sunshine followed by brief, heavy downpours.

As a cold front slowly sags south towards the Brazos Valley, our rain chances will steadily come up.  20% shot at an isolated thunderstorm will hold for today, followed by a 50% chance of widely scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon on Saturday.  If you don't find rain today or tomorrow, well -- hold on tight, because our best, 60% chance, of rain will swing on through on Sunday.

Below is a look at your PinPoint Computer Model Forecast for today through Saturday afternoon:

Tropical Development?

The remnants of Tropical Depression Seven look like they may want to come back alive in the Southwestern Gulf of Mexico this weekend.  The National Hurricane Center have placed an 80% chance of development (back into a depression or possible Tropical Storm) over the next 48 hours.

While we aren't concerned about a tropical system making landfall near the Brazos Valley -- what happens with this system could hinder our rain chances as we move into next week.  Should this system remain just a broad area of low pressure, it is more likely that tropical moisture will swing towards the upper Texas Coastline.  That said -- should the circulation of this system tighten up and close off, it would likely hold the moisture closer to it's center of circulation, which may leave our area high and dry.

Still uncertainties, so we'll continue to monitor the situation.
