Thoughts & Prayers for Tornado Ravaged Joplin, Missouri

Updated: Tue 10:12 AM, May 24, 2011

Once again this severe weather season we find ourselves counting our blessings, praying for others and glued to YouTube videos and pictures coming out of an area hit head on by a large and destructive tornado.

Here are radar images from Sunday Evening as the tornadic storm blew through Southwest Missouri: (Courtesy: Justyn Jackson's Weather blog)

In case you've just flat out missed hearing about it -- a large, mile-wide tornado destroyed what is being estimated as around 75% of Joplin, Missouri on Sunday night.  This comes on the heels of the April 27th tornado outbreak that did wide spread damage across the Southern US, with the most prolific of that damage being in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Word out of the hard hit area this morning is not good.   In fact, there have been reports of residents there tweeting from under the rubble looking for help out.  From  :

"Word coming in Joplin, that people are Tweeting for help, from under the rainswept rubble. Social, and life-saving, media. On the way."

To top it all off, as rescue efforts were being made this morning, another round of severe thunderstorms moved into the Joplin area with 60-70mph straight line winds and reported 1-inch diameter hail.  All off Southwestern Missouri has once again been placed under a "Moderate Risk" for severe weather -- including a possible tornado threat -- through the rest of today.

If you would like to help these tornado victims out, you can always do so through the American Red Cross.

Below are some of the videos and images that have come through social media since the tornado hit last night:
