Since the beginning of January, Bryan / College Station has received 5.06" of rain. Compared to the "normal" rainfall for this time of the year, we are currently running 1.33" above the average for the beginning of 2013.  

That being said, the 3 month outlook for our part of Texas is "Above Normal Temperatures" and "Below Normal Precipitation" (per the Climate Prediction Center).  Also, according to the latest drought monitor released, most of the Brazos Valley is considered to be in a "Moderate Drought" -- needless to say, the rain today is great to add to a surplus before we possibly run into a abnormally dry period.

Keep an Umbrella Around

As a few, small upper-level disturbances cruise past the Brazos Valley today, we'll keep the rain chances up.

As of 2 this morning, light rain started pushing into the Brazos Valley and since then, just about everybody in the area has seen at least some amount of the wet stuff today.  

The rest of the day will be a bit of an overcast mess.  Rain chances will favor those along a Giddings to Caldwell to Bryan / College Station to Madisonville line and points to the south.  Most of the rain will be steady and light, however there will be the occasional pocket of moderate to briefly heavier rain falling from time to time as well.  

We'll keep the best rain chances running through 3pm to 5pm and then start to taper them off heading into the early evening hours.

PinPoint Computer Forecast (Early Wednesday Morning Run)

Wednesday Midday -- A heavier pocket of rain sitting south of I-10, to the southwest of Bellville, is expected to work into the southern half of the Brazos Valley:

Wednesday Afternoon -- We'll monitor trends, but computer models still holding on to activity going strong thanks to upper-level dynamics and daytime heating (or what little heating has happened by then):

End of Business-time / Heading into the Evening Hours -- most of the activity should be moving out of the Brazos Valley via our Eastern & Southeastern Counties:

More Rain on the Way?

Sure looks like it could be.  Our next upper-level system / cold front works into the Brazos Valley by Sunday.  That looks to be our next best chance for wide-spread showers and thunderstorms.  More on that coming in the coming days after today's rain event...
