We've had a series of cold fronts swing through the Brazos Valley over the past handful of days. Granted one of those fronts didn't actually bring much "cold" to the table...but it provided for some pleasant conditions behind it, anyway.
We're tracking another potential front into the Brazos Valley by the end of the weekend -- this one however, could lose steam before blowing into the area. Sit back, keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle, and let's take a trip on the ride known as forecast uncertainty.
Bringing Humidity Back
Northerly winds have helped blow a drier air mass into the Brazos Valley.
By Thursday morning and through the rest of this work / school week, we'll slowly watch humidity levels climb and start walking out the door to a bit more moisture in the air.
First signs of added moisture -- clouds. After a sunny couple of days, partly cloudy skies return to the forecast on Friday. For those headed south for weekend plans, you could find a passing shower roll overhead out of the Gulf of Mexico.
Rain on the Horizon?
This is one of the two big question marks of the forecast. The other is if temperatures will come down at all. The answer to both of those questions comes from just how much punch our cold front will bring.
The latest forecast data suggests that our high pressure system currently overhead is going to hang tough for a few more days. That will squeeze the main support for our late weekend cold front further north towards Canada. The further away the upper-level support, the less of an impact this front will bring to our backyard.
We'll look for a few showers / isolated thunderstorms to remain possible, starting Saturday afternoon, as humidity and cloud cover increase. That front will come close enough to act as a focal point for more *chances* of showers and storms through the weekend and into early next week -- when it is scheduled to slide in.
Going with the idea that our upper-support will be on the other side of the country -- we'll only bring overnight lows down to the mid / upper 60s and rebound temperatures into the low 90s for afternoon highs. Those numbers will likely need to be tweaked as we get a bit closer to the weekend...
