What a difference a day and a cold front makes.  After topping off in the 70s and 80s -- yes 80s in January -- we are finally looking for a more typical late-January day.  Thanks to the dryline that blew through the Brazos Valley yesterday afternoon, temperatures were a good 20° to 25° COLDER this morning than that of Tuesday morning.  In fact, before our storms blew in to change things up yesterday evening, it was pretty toasty across most of the State of Texas.  Corpus Christi reached a new record high of 91° -- and again, yes...January.

WIND ADVISORY

Most of the Brazos Valley has been placed under a Wind Advisory until 4pm by the National Weather Service.  Even for those that may not be under that advisory technically, let's pretend that you are -- it'll be equally as windy for you today as those covered in the advisory.

As we saw on Tuesday, winds will be strong as they remain sustained (constant) between 15mph and 25mph, alongside wind gusts upwards of 30mph to 35mph.  The difference in today's winds is that it'll be out of the northwest -- a chillier wind.  Wind chills will be in the 40s through early afternoon, and at most feel like the mid-50s by the middle of this afternoon.

Winds should subside by sunset this evening, which will lead to our next concern...

Protect the Plants and Pets

Clear skies, a dry / cold air mass & light winds will allow temperatures to dip down into the low to mid 30s overnight.  Many locations will be near freezing, but a few outlying spots could reach 32° briefly by early Thursday morning.  While this won't be a widespread or long-lived freeze, there is a decent chance of frost in many locations Thursday morning.  Tender vegetation should be covered or brought in, so that you can continue to enjoy it after tonight's cold temperatures.

Modest "Mild-Up"

High pressure will slide overhead tonight and then move off to the east by Thursday.  Winds return out of the south by tomorrow -- however, it won't be a wind as strong as what the Brazos Valley has experienced over the past couple of days.  

As highs approach the low 70s by the beginning of the weekend, a weak front will try to reach us by Saturday night, possibly sparking up an isolated shower or two, but more importantly reinforcing our temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s.  Still a bit above the normal for the end of January / beginning of February, but not the near-record-breaking 80s we've been dealing with these past couple of days.
