You Guessed It -- Talking Heat and Drought

Hot and dry. Hot and dry. Hot and dry....and humid.

That is what it seems the forecast has come down to over the past week.  We have hit 90°+ over the past four days this week...and it looks like we have more coming our way not only today but Saturday and Easter Sunday as well.  In fact, it looks like this will be one of the hottest Easter Weekends on record for the Brazos Valley.  Here's a look back at this past week:

Monday: 92°

Tuesday: 96° (breaking a previous record high of 95° set back in 1951)

Wednesday: 94° (tying the record high for the 20th)

Thursday: 92°

We expect to at least tie (but wouldn't be surprised if we broke) today's record high as well:

When you break it down, April 2011 is already going to go down in the record books as one of the hottest -- and we still have 8 days to go through this month.

As for the drought, the last 1"+ rain we got at Easterwood Airport was on January 9th.  Since January 10th, we've only managed to squeeze a little over two and some change inches from the sky.  Needless to say, that is a big reason why we are in this exceptional drought.

The semi-good news is that it seems that our short-term pattern will change a bit heading into next week.  An upper level trough is scheduled to swing across the Southern U.S. bringing slight chances for showers and isolated thunderstorms on Monday, and possibly Tuesday as well.  While slight, at this point we will take what we can get.  What seems more certain than the rain is an associated cold front that will drop temperatures off to more comfortable and seasonal levels by mid to end of the upcoming week.  Stay tuned.
