Back & Forth with Barbara & Steve -- TOPIC #5: Ladies Nite

Updated: Wed 5:16 PM, Jun 23, 2010

Brazos Valley This Morning's Barbara Smith and Steve Fullhart often have quite the discussions on a variety of topics.  A lot of times, it's via e-mail.  Now, they're giving KBTX.com readers a look at their regular back and forth in their blog series, appropriately titled "Back & Forth".  Read what they've been chatting about, and chime in with your opinions!

BARBARA: Okay, Steve, you've mentioned it vaguely several times now. We all know you're working on something "special" for this year's Ladies Nite...any clues?  Any hints?  You're going to be Wayne Newton, aren't you?  Working on some special Ferris Bueller-esque song?

STEVE: I can certainly confirm I will not be taking on the role of Mr. Newton, although "Danke Schoen" might be an appropriate song.

No, I will be taking on the role of Siegfried of "Siegfried and Roy" fame. My partner in crime (and magic) will be Jordan Meserole, our former chief photographer and current B/CS Chamber of Commerce employee.  I don't know why I need to explain who Jordan is to you...maybe someone else will read this e-mail and not know him.

This will easily be my toughest and biggest role ever at a Ladies' Nite.  Not going to lie...I'm a little nervous...

BARBARA: But you'll be in full costume, right?  So there's a chance the ladies won't automatically know it's you?  You can hide behind that great mullet wig of yours!  Still don't know what ever possessed you to make that purchase in the first place, but it certainly has been put to good use with Ladies Nite acts.

As you know, I'm a big fan of Ladies Nite.  It's so much fun to see all the ladies get all dressed up (still amazed at some of those outfits from 80s nite two years ago!!!) and let their hair down (for those who have hair that goes down...my sticks out and up...I digress).   But truly my favorite part has always been seeing how the men in our community -- fine, upstanding businessmen -- are willing to completely humiliate themselves just to make sure we ladies have a great evening.  I won't mention names specifically, but let's just say I will never in my life forget the year "Prince" leapt off the stage and stuck the landing in high heels!!!  You know who you are...and you're my hero!  Not many guys OR girls could do that!

So to all the ladies who are considering whether or not to attend, please do.  It's always great fun and a good networking opportunity (if you feel like you need to bring business into it...personally, I'd just go for the fun of it).

And to all the men -- Steve included -- THANK YOU for putting yourselves out there for one night and providing us with a year's worth of laughter.

So Siegfried, does that boost your confidence at all?

STEVE: No. No, it does not.

BARBARA: Fine.  So just go with the knowledge that I will be there to laugh at you.  But, I tried to be nice about it.  Now, I'll point and laugh.  Before, I wasn't going to point.

STEVE: I can guarantee that people will be laughing a lot.  I will also guarantee that come the Monday after the big night, people in attendance will want to tune in to the morning show.  They will have seen something at Ladies' Nite that will have them watching BVTM Monday for a follow up.  I may be injured.  There may be bandages.  But it will have people talking.  And it will be worth it.  SOOOOOO worth it!

BARBARA: So that should help with your courage issues...the knowledge that you're bringing joy and laughter to a room full of women.  Sure, you may get hurt in the process, but it's all in a day's work.

You know, I think immediately following this, we should have a bachelor auction and put you and Shel up on the block.  Now, THAT could be a great fundraiser!  You wanna get people talking?  That could do it!  :)

STEVE: I believe once a year is quite enough for me to fight through my stage fright and other related issues, thank you very much.
