Just a quick update for you today as we embark on this Father's Day Weekend.
Have plans outside? Not telling you anything that you aren't used to hearing -- especially this time of the year -- have plenty of water, wear light colored clothing and find a cool spot to relax in every 20 to 30 minutes. Heat index values could run as high as 103° to 105° by the end of this afternoon.
Slight Chance of Rain / Thunderstorms
While not the greatest, it is not out of the question to see a few showers or thunderstorms try to drift into the Brazos Valley from the east. A stalled out cold front -- well, not really "cold" but it's a boundary from the big complex of thunderstorms that raced from the Plains to the East Coast over the past couple of days -- will near the Texas / Louisiana / Arkansas border and stall out.
This "boundary" could act as a focal point for a few showers and thunderstorms to develop on. If that can occur, with the help of some hot, daytime heat then some may be able to hold together and drift into our area.
While everyone will have a slight shot at seeing a touch of rain, areas along I-45 and points to the east will be the favored area for seeing activity. Same case for your Saturday, too.
Here's a look at the morning run of the PinPoint Computer Forecast Model:
Be on Watch for a Thunderstorm
While the rain / storm chance is small, should a thunderstorm manage to develop it could bring wind in excess of 40mph. A few storms could even bring a brief severe threat to our far eastern counties (winds in excess of 60mph). Not something we are anticipating, but because of the heat, it's something that isn't totally out of the question.
Hot Father's Day Weekend
Other than that brief cool down thanks to a possible afternoon shower, your weekend will continue to run hot.
Afternoon highs will reach at least the mid-90s, with heat index values running in the low 100s. Plus side, by Sunday a bit of a breeze from the south will kick up at 5 to 15mph, which should help stir up some of that muggy air hanging overhead.
