Creeks are filled to the brim -- stock tanks are a sight of water vs. the, deep cracked earth of months past. Overall, this past weekend's rainfall helped to take a bit out of a decreasing drought situation here in the Brazos Valley.
As of last week, the official Drought Monitor still had much of our backyard in a "severe drought" state. Data for this classification if collected on Tuesdays followed by the new monitor being posted on Thursday morning -- so, we'll have to wait a few more days to see just how much this recent rainfall has helped the situation.

Better than Last Year
February 2012 came in as one of the wettest on record ever for most of us in the area. That combined with a steady series of storm systems dropping their fair share of the wet stuff, has put 2012's rainfall just a few inches shy of the TOTAL rainfall that fell in 2011. La Nina (the culprit for our recent drought) is expected fall apart completely by the beginning of summer. Here's hoping that we continue on this trend and stay away from last year's destructive pattern.
