Thursday Blog (3/14): Return to the 80s

Updated: Thu 11:18 AM, Mar 14, 2013

Return to the 80s.  No we're not talking perms, Madonna, Ferris Bueller, or The Breakfast Club.  That being said, "Life [does] move pretty. If you don't stop and look around, you might miss it."

So let's try this again...Return to the 80s.  Warmth.  Spring-like.  Pool weather?  (too soon?) We've had our share of beautiful weather, here in the Brazos Valley, this week and we'll continue a warming trend into the weekend.

Wrapping Up Spring Break For Many

The past couple of years, Spring Break has been split by warm and cold air fighting it out.  Not SB2013, though.  For a week that started with lows around freezing and highs in the upper 50s to low 60s, we've managed to make it back to pleasant, chilly mornings followed by mild and sunny afternoons.

That warming train won't stop here -- take a look at expected highs across Texas on Friday:

How about Saturday? We could see a few 90° readings in West Texas:

Weekend Outlook

Changes that are headed your way:

  • Higher Humidity (increased moisture)
  • Scattered morning clouds turning to sunnier afternoons
  • Temperatures topping off around 80° in the afternoon (~10 ° above average)
  • Temperatures bottoming out around 60° at night (~10° above average)
  • Stronger southerly winds, gusting upwards of 25mph at times

It won't be weather that you can't get out and enjoy, but it will be weather that isn't quite as tranquil and mild as what we've found this past week.

Since It Feels Like Spring...

...nature has responded.  Bluebonnets and wild flowers have been spotted across many locations in the Brazos Valley.  See some? Snap a picture and tweet it (@KBTXShel or @KBTXWeather) our way or email it to weather@kbtx.com.

Here's a picture submitted to the KBTX Media Facebook Page yesterday:

Enjoy this "Spring Fever" feeling -- soon it'll be right on target.  Spring officially starts next Wednesday (March 20th)!
