Cold front came sliding through pretty much on schedule overnight -- it even sparked up a few showers and thunderstorms in Walker, Montgomery and San Jacinto counties dropping between 0.2" & 0.3" of rain.

Now that the cold front is to the south of the Brazos Valley, it's the job of breezy north to northeast winds to cool us down and dry out the air.  In fact, dewpoint temperatures started in the mid-50s early this morning and will tank to the upper 30s by 3:00pm to 4:00pm.  That'll play a big role in our short term forecast -- especially for your overnight / Friday wake-up temperatures.

Our latest cold front was pushed through the Brazos Valley thanks to a very large upper-level low pressure system sitting just west of the Great Lakes this morning. A crazy strong storm system caused HIGH WIND WARNINGS across much of the Northern and Central Plains this week -- with wind gusts reported as high as 80mph in some locations.

That storm system will slowly work it's way to the northeast, leaving a cool, northerly to northwesterly flow over the State of Texas.  Think of it as Mother Nature setting the thermostat on the wall to "very fall-like."  This overall pattern will continue for today and Friday -- enjoy it while it's here...we'll be back under a ridge of high pressure by Saturday signaling the return to southerly and warmer winds.

A chilly night is ahead for the Brazos Valley.  High pressure will settle in at the surface, calming winds down and keeping a clear sky in place.  That, combined with a light north wind, dry air and a cool airmass overhead, will bring on a Friday morning sunrise with temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s area-wide.  

As fast as dry air cools down, it also can heat up rapidly.  Once the sun takes to the sky on Friday we'll start to warm back into the mid-80s alongside a light north wind, generally less than 10mph.
