Were you able to step outside this morning to our chilly start? Temperatures fell anywhere between the mid-to-upper 30s in a few locations to the low 50s in others as we kicked off this Tuesday morning.  If you love a good December feeling, then I hope you were out to enjoy the chill...spring will be in the air as you head outdoors this afternoon.

A Spring-Like December Day

Looking out the window, you'll find nothing but blue sky across the Brazos Valley today.  While you're daydreaming out that window, listen to the background noise.  Hear that? Sounds a lot like the air conditioner. Highs this afternoon will top off around the mid-70s for most this afternoon.  We may even see a few locations closer to 80° by the end of today -- believe it or not. 

After this stretch of sunshine, mostly cloudy skies return quickly overnight.  Factor in an increasing moisture supply (higher dew points), the developing cloud cover and a breezy south wind -- temperatures are only expected to fall into the upper 50s to low 60s overnight.  Mild..sure.  Pleasant for some...of course.  Let me put it into perspective: our normal daytime high for this time of the year is 62°.  Tonight, it looks like we may only make it down to 61° in Bryan / College Station! How is that for "warmer than normal?"

Blast of December en Route:

Not feeling these mid 70 to 80 degree temperatures? We'll get you fixed up pretty quickly if you can hold out a couple of days. 

Our next storm system is moving out of the Pacific Northwest and making moves towards the Brazos Valley.  As the front comes crashing into the area late Wednesday afternoon / evening, we'll add a 30% chance of showers and possible isolated, strong thunderstorms to the forecast.  Rain chances disappear by Thursday morning and we'll lose the bottom to our warmer weather once again.

Sunshine will return as drier air rushes into the Brazos Valley Wednesday night late / early Thursday morning.  Despite the sunshine, factor in brisk north wind at 15-25mph, with higher gusts upwards of 30mph, and afternoon highs will struggle to reach the upper 50s in many locations by Thursday afternoon.  Also, because of those winds, we may only feel as "warm" as the upper 40s to low 50s by late in the day Thursday. 

Once the winds calm down Thursday night, it looks like a good portion of the Brazos Valley could wake up to a light freeze Friday morning.  (In good timing too! Winter officially rings in at 5:12am Friday morning -- the earliest start to winter since 1896!)

I'm Dreaming of a Wet Christmas / So You're Saying There's a Chance?

Plans for the Christmas holiday? I won't put too much detail in it for now -- mainly because there is still A LOT of uncertainty to be had in the extended forecast -- but it looks like your Christmas Eve & Christmas Day activities could involve a bit of rain here in the Brazos Valley.  A white Christmas is on the minds of meteorologists in Oklahoma and possibly as far south as North Texas / Dallas & Fort Worth.

NOT AN OFFICIAL FORECAST -- the early morning extended model runs paints the chance of snow as far south as the Texas Coast by December 26th.  Yes, that means they paint that chance for the "S" word here in the Brazos Valley as well.

Don't get too giddy just yet, the mid-morning run wasn't quite as bullish with that wintry outlook.  Something to keep in the back your mind...we'll keep you updated should anything exciting and rare develop.
