Summer is officially (and quickly) starting to come to an end and Fall will be here by the weekend.  Well...fall as a season, but an early taste of Autumn has already made an appearance in our forecast a few times over the past couple of weeks.  Set an alarm for 9:49am, Saturday morning -- that'll be the official kick off to Autumn and the starting line for cooler temperatures as we head into the final months of 2012.  

As for our summer -- overall, it wasn't the worst thing ever (although it may have seemed like it at times).  Hottest temperature of the year? 106°  Here's a look back at our Summer and a taste of what you can expect these last days of the season:

Here Comes A Cold Front

Now, now...don't get too overly excited.  I'd say it's about right to get giddy...just not "overly excited."  This isn't going to be a big, blue norther / huge cold snap -- but it will be good enough to keep highs in the 80s for the next several days, along with pushing in drier air to drop the humidity and help overnight lows fall into the mid 50s to low 60s.

Cool air will spill down a good chunk of the Eastern United States, and funnel down into our backyard.  Highs today will top off anywhere from the low 80s in our northern counties to the upper 80s (near 90°) in our southern counties.  Cloud cover is spreading in as the front draws closer this morning as well -- however, by the afternoon more sunshine should be a common theme for at least the Northern and Central Brazos Valley before sunset.

Chance of a Thunderstorm

Yeah...it's possible, just not likely.  We'll keep a 10% to 20% chance of an isolated shower or even thunderstorm during the afternoon hours.  If one of these storms were to form, it could grow on the stronger side, which could lead to a heavy downpour, lightning, gusty winds and possibly even small hail.  Again, while it is possible, it isn't very likely that it will occur today.  Of course, we'll keep tabs on the radar screen and give you a heads up, should a storm fire off in the area.

Sunnier, Mild, and Overall Fall-ish

Drier air will spill in from the north, clear out our cloud cover, scour our the humidity and help overnight lows fall into that "chilly" feeling.  Sunshine will be the primary theme for the next several days as highs slowly warm from the mid-80s on Wednesday to the upper 80s by Friday.  Just as we start to work back in a little moisture from the south and 90s into the forecast, another cold front sweeps in to save the day and drive highs back into the mid 80s on Sunday.  Take a look -- like what you see?  Let us know -- send us your thoughts on the upcoming forecast by shooting a tweet to @KBTXShel.
