If you've been waiting on pins and needles since February 12th, when we dropped down to 31°, for the next freeze -- congrats...we made it down to that 32° mark once again here in Bryan / College Station. In fact, we saw an area-wide freeze to start this Tuesday morning off. Many locations in the Brazos Valley have touched the freezing mark already this season, but just as many (if not more) had not until today. Last night's FREEZE WARNING issued by the National Weather Service proved necessary as we spanned anywhere from 22° to 32° by 7am.
Here's a preliminary look at some of the area lows across the Brazos Valley. Disclaimer: There could be an adjustment, for the colder, by a degree or so in a few locations as the National Weather Service looks over the morning data.
Weather Watcher Reports:
Plenty cold -- but put up against the records, you'll see that we are no strangers to frigid weather on December 11th. Below is a look at your record low for today, along with the last "cold" temperatures we've had in 2012.
A Modest "Warm-Up"
Ample sunshine is in store for your Tuesday. The trough of low pressure responsible for driving that Arctic air mass into the Brazos Valley -- and much of the United States, for that matter -- will finally clear the Lone Star State by this afternoon and evening. That trough will drag through some high clouds, here and there, but with dew points in the teens and 20s, don't expect much of anything else.
Mostly sunny skies and that dry air will help bring highs in to the upper 40s to mid 50s area wide. Sunshine is a great thing on a day like today, but with this cold air in place, it takes a lot to warm things up. Factor in a light NNE wind that continues to act like air conditioning and that'll help keep the temperatures from soaring too high.
Another Frigid Night Ahead
Don't put the plants and pets back outside just yet. With clear skies, light winds, dry air and this cold air mass in place, another wide-spread freeze is anticipated again tonight. Lows in the upper 20s to low 30s looks like where we will start our Wednesday morning at:
