A whole slew of things going on in the Brazos Valley -- and after multiple days of scattered heavy rain across the area, lots of folks are asking if we'll get more of it this weekend.
The answer to that is...maybe.
Pretty vague, huh? Well, lets take it step by step and break it down for you.
Keep an Umbrella...Just in Case
The drought is officially over, but we'll need too keep the rain coming in order to do everything we can to make sure we don't slip back into it during our typical hot & dry summer months. That being said, for some of us -- especially in Burleson County -- the multiple inches of rain these past couple of days have prompted the National Weather Service to issue brief Flash Flood Warnings as storms roll through. The ground is saturated and could use some time to dry out...which it should get.
However, there will be a slight chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms to pop up, mainly in the afternoon with the onset of daytime heat. Should any thunderstorm really get going, it could become strong enough to drop some pretty heavy rain, and it won't be moving very quickly, so that could once again cause some concern. That scenario will be the exception rather than the rule -- but we'll continue to monitor and keep you up to date as needed.
Warming Things Up
February 23rd of this year we hit a daytime high of 88° -- the warmest so far this year.
And it looks like we'll have a good chance of tying that mark on Saturday afternoon. With more sunshine, a warm, southerly breeze and a weak ridge in the northern tier of the jet stream, temperatures will have the chance to turn out pretty warm for the first half of the weekend. To the side is a look at projected highs across Texas
The good news is that more cloud cover and an approaching upper-level storm system will help to lower those highs back into the low-to-mid 80s for Sunday and Monday.
Cold Front Ahead
Two magic words after a forecasted high of 88°...cold front. That upper-level system we just chatted about above will move a decent Pacific cold front into the Brazos Valley late Monday / early Tuesday. That will bring on a chance of evening & overnight storms followed by less humid, cooler and sunnier weather. Next week looks like a beauty with lows falling into the 50s and highs only reaching the 70s!
