People are taking extra precautions this flu season to prevent from getting sick, especially with the scarcity of flu shots. But, does that mean giving up the "common cup" during communion?

The Catholic News Service reports that a bishop has asked Vermont Catholics not to receive communion from a "common cup" or shake hands for the next few months.

Doctors say there's always a chance of getting sick from sharing a cup.

"Certainly hand transmission and any contact with secretions will be associated with potential transmission without a doubt," said infectious disease specialist Dr. Ricardo Lemos.

Doctors say one of the best methods of preventing yourself from getting sick is to wash your hands.
