House Speaker: "It's time to end special session"

House Speaker Tom Craddick is urging fellow Texas leaders to drop the remaining two weeks of the 30-day special session on school finance.

Craddick says neither chamber has been able to pass any legislation, and it doesn't appear that they will.

Craddick issued the statement after Governor Rick Perry and Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst expressed determination to
continue work to find a school finance solution.

A ruling from the Texas Supreme Court is expected this year on an appeal to a lower decision that the existing state school
funding system is unconstitutional.

Craddick says the Legislature should wait to review the court's ruling before meeting again.

Meanwhile, a key panel of senators has approved yet another education overhaul bill.
But the plan would be contingent on an accompanying school property tax relief bill, which doesn't exist.
