The final curtain has closed for Texas A&M's own American Idol hopeful Jason Castro. The dread-locked crooner was voted off the show Wednesday night after making it all the way to the final four.

His Tuesday performance of Bob Marley's "I shot the Sheriff" and Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man" failed to win over the judges, especially Simon Cowell who told him to pack his bags.

A victory party at Texas A&M had been planned for Thursday if Castro made it to the next round.

I honestly HATE the show American Idol, but to me, anyone who can last even just as long as he did, must have some talent. Well, minus that Sanjia or whatever his name is, but that was just a gag. I'm proud of Jason and I hope that he goes far in life. All my best and welcome home Aggie!

Jason cannot sing. That's why he's gone. He's a dud. Go back to playing your guitar for your pet fish.

Posted by: Patti Location: College Station on May 13, 2008 at 02:39 PM
Awesome job Jason. You have true talent and it wasn't just the Aggies that got you to the top. I think you should have been top 3. Can't wait to here more!! You will go far. Good Luck.

Why to go Jason. You showed alot of class no matter what people think.Good luck in your singing career.Aggies are always behind you no matter what.

How many Aggies does it take to sing "Mr. Tambourine Man" Answer: obviously more than one.

Posted by: Ashley Location: CS on May 8, 2008 at 09:26 PM
His inexperience caught up with him. He can totally sing too! He'll go far in life with a singing career if he is wise through out now and the future.

It was time for him to go. He did not seem enthusiastic about being on the program anymore.

It's about time he got voted off.It should have happened long before now.Go take some singing and guitar lessons now!!!!!

FACE IT! THIS GUY COULD NOT SING AT ALL. HE SHOULDN'T HAVE EVEN BEEN IN THE TOP 24!! HE REPRESENTED THE AGGIES IN A HORRIBLE WAY!!!! HOWEVER I AM STILL AN AGGIE FAN

I think Jason was relieved it's all over now. I also think he will have a record deal regardless of being voted off. I would like to see a party of some type for him. He has nothing to be ashamed of, he was a true Aggie even to the end. God bless Jason and his next move. We will continue to support him. We can't wait for that first CD.

Official Dreadhead #1851 here, I could not be prouder of how Jason represented himself, family, faith, hometown and TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY!!! I was planning on attending both parties, A&M and Rockwall. I know they have been cancelled, but I wish the news would not make it sound like A&M is not having a party just because he did not make it into the Top 3, almost like he let us down. He would not be able to be here even if we had the party. I'm sure something great will be planned for him when he is given some free time!!! PEACE LOVE AND GIG'EM

It appears that the Aggie Network isn't all it's cracked up to be. What happened Aggies not enough of you in the real world outside the Brazos Valley to pull him thru??? I guess America saw the real untalented person he was. Specially when he says "Duh, dead brain" what an Aggie representation!!!

Posted by: Me Location: Here on May 8, 2008 at 11:27 AM
Yes, have the party in honor of everyone who voted just because he was an Aggie, regardless of talent! You can do (almost) anything if you have enough people who know you!

Congrats to Jason!! I like his music, it is different and get him into a recording studio and I bet it will be great! What ever happened to "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" My parents taught me that years ago! In my opinion he was not the best singer in this competition but I enjoyed watching him and all the others that are left are a dime a dozen! Jason is unique and seems to stay true to his style. I cannot wait to buy his music!!

I think from his reaction he was relieved and glad it was over.

Posted by: Kokomo Location: Texas on May 8, 2008 at 10:43 AM
What a wonderful representation of big hearted Texans. No sobbing out of regret or sadness...just smiles for actually being in the final four. Jason, go get em now and record away! Keep smiling!

Jason had some good song choices and bad song choices in idol. It dosn't matter he will still tour with idol in the summer time and hopefully he'll get a record deal out of it in the fall.

Posted by: jc on May 8, 2008 at 09:33 AM
Jason may want some alone time....

Posted by: Anonymous on May 8, 2008 at 09:17 AM
I agree with you, Heather. He may not have been the greatest, but how many critics of his have made it to American Idol? Give the guy a break and have the danged party.

Posted by: RJ Location: Texas on May 8, 2008 at 09:05 AM
Its about time. He was horrible and his lack of talent really showed. He can have his party but it won't change how bad and untalented he is.

Posted by: jak Location: bryan on May 8, 2008 at 09:03 AM
I think there should still be a celebration! He did a fantastic job and should be recognized for it and see the support he had and will have from his Aggie family. Me In Centerville...he knows where his support is...AGGIELAND!!

Posted by: Jason Fan Location: Aggieland on May 8, 2008 at 08:37 AM
I think that Jason deserves a party anyway. He is such a gentleman and seemed genuinely happy to be in that moment, no matter what the next held for him. I think that he embodies the Aggie Sprit and to show him support would be the least we could do. He handled himself so well, and looked like he was just taking in every moment for what it was worth, something that I know a lot of us could learn from him. To truly appreciate the gifts from God when you receive them and to know that they are gifts, and to not be upset when things don’t go as you wish, knowing that there is a bigger purpose at the end of it all.

Posted by: Carolyn Location: Bryan on May 8, 2008 at 08:25 AM
So many people have asked why he still can't be given a celebration party; why can't he. But, most people don't know that the intention of the celebration in the first place was because American Idol goes this week to all of the remaining contestant's home town to film them "in their environment." I'm still proud of him and think we should all celebrate him anyway!

Posted by: IDOLFAN Location: AGGIELAND on May 8, 2008 at 01:08 AM
WE ALL SHOULD STILL CONGRADULATE HIM ON HIS WAY TO SUCCESS AND STILL GIVE HIM A VICTORY PARTY... HE HAS CAME A LONG WAY AND DESERVES IT...

Posted by: Me Location: Centerville on May 8, 2008 at 12:05 AM
It's about time. He is not very talented. Aggie votes are the only thing that carried him this far.

Posted by: Heather Location: College Station on May 7, 2008 at 11:43 PM
Why don't we still have the victory party. He got to the FINAL FOUR. What an acheivement. I think we should still celebrate.
