Growth and expansion are on the way to the Women's Center at St. Joseph's in Bryan.

Beginning Monday, work will begin on revamping the current facility to make more room for moms and their newborn babies.

The new women's center will house all maternity related services, a nursery and an expanded intensive care are for newborns.

The new unit will have 39 rooms. Of those, 34 will be postpartum, three ante partum, and two for recovery. It will also house two C-section suites, and 39 bassinets in the nursery and intensive care area.

Construction will nearly double the size of the current facility.

The $12 million project will take about two years to complete.
