Driver inattention is the official cause of a weekend accident in Grimes County that killed two people.
It happened Saturday afternoon on Highway 90 near Bedias.

Troopers say the driver of a car, Jonathan Bohorquez, drifted off the road, over corrected and hit an oncoming car.

Bohorquez was taken to a Houston hospital by helicopter where he is listed in critical condition.

His passenger, Eulalio Garza III, 44, was killed in the crash. Garza was a Prairie View A&M professor and had just attended graduation ceremonies. He was an assistant professor of educational leadership and director of the Prairie View A&M University Dallas education center.

Memorial services in honor of Dr. Garza will be held at the Cedar Valley College campus in Dallas on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. and a Rosary Service is planned at 6:30 p.m. Both services will be held at the Memorial Funeral Home in Corpus Christi.

The funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 1 p.m., at Saints Cyril and Methodious Church in Corpus Christi.

Also killed in the crash was Phillip Bigbee, 29, of Round Top. He was in the car that was hit and died at the scene.

It was a tragedy and an accident. There's no reason to place blame and point fingers. Remember those who touched you, honor them by being a better person because you knew them. God called them both home and there's no better place to be. RIP Evan and Dr. Garza.

I am so sad to read all the negative comments. Dr. Garza would hate this. He always taught us to be kind and civil-even in adversity. He was a role model, a mentor, and a Christian he looked out for everyone, even if he just met you. He would never refer to anyone as stupid...This over shadows the tremendous tragedy the accident was. PLEASE honor both Evan and Trey and pray for Jonathan. We are all in pain and need a healing. May God bless you.

because of the professor's profoundly stupid choice to let an unlicensed driver behind the wheel, the world is missing the brightest young man I will EVER meet, and Bohorquez will hopefully spend a long, long time in jail. Rest in Peace Evan.

I agree with CS, all victims in this sad story are just as equally important. My prayers go out to all of the grieving families. May Gold bless and accept into His kingdom, each of these souls.

Mr. Bigbee's story is just as important as the professor but yet all you see in this article is the professor. Let's treat everyone the respect and dignity they ALL deserve. May God Bless all family and friends who are grieving.
