22-Year-Old Newest Face On Bryan City Council

BRYAN, Texas A new face on the Bryan City Council was sworn in Monday and he's the youngest council member possibly ever.

At least within the last 24 years according to the City Secretary.

22-year-old Rafael Pena was sworn in at the Bryan Municipal Building as the representative for Single Member District 2.

Earlier this month he defeated Perry Stephney to win the race.

The Bryan City Secretary Mary Lynne Stratta tells us this is also the first time two Hispanics have served on the council at the same time since ethnicity records started being kept in 1967.

Pena told us he's now working to learn city business.

"Anybody who's young out of high school getting in college they don't really think they can make a difference, I'm living proof that they can. So don't give up. Don't ever give up," said Rafael Pena.

The council did not have enough members present for a quorum for other agenda items other than canvassing this past election.

Their next meeting is January 14th.
