She's only been on the job for a week, but Monday Reveille VIII made her first appearance in Aggieland.

Monday afternoon local media was invited to get a glimpse of A&M's new first lady.

The university announced the new mascot just one week ago. But then, the new Reveille was still getting used to her new surroundings and school officials didn't want to overwhelm her.

But on Monday you could tell Reveille is already getting the hang of being Texas A&M's top dog.

Reveille VIII will make her first official public appearance on the 30th, during the Aggie football season opener.

Trust me, my daughter was in the corps for the first four years of Rev VII's service. Rev VII DID INDEED wear a muzzle - just not the typical muzzle you've seen. It was a single leather strap, secured with velcro around her snout. It was a friendlier muzzle, one designed to let the dog drink and pant, just not open her mouth enough wide to bite anyone. She was even able to eat while wearing it. It MOST CERTAINLY DID NOT hold her mouth "completely shut". Do you really think Aggies would have accepted that treatment? And she HAD snapped at yell leaders, corps personnel and visitors WAY BEFORE her handler stepped on her tail, that was the proverbial 'last straw'. Without the muzzle, I believe the tradition of Rev was in danger of extinction - one incident away. Please do not try to insinuate Rev VII was in any way mistreated. While here, she was the First Lady of Aggieland and, as such, was treated with the highest regard. Rev VIII will be afforded the same, now that she is reigning Lady

Sherry, I heard that story also, and it sounds a bit strange, because it was supposed to have happened when the dog and handler were running, and from what I know, when a dog runs, its tail is up in the air, so I have to wonder how the cadet stepped on it if indeed they were running.

The handler stepped on her tail is the reason she bit. She was not wearing a muzzle it was a strip of something that held her mouth complely shut...she could not open her mouth to breathe to keep cool...by the way I am an Aggie Fan too..Just want our Lady to be treated like a "lady"

Sherry - Muzzles are not harmful to dogs. They simply protect the people and/or animals around them from being harmed.

She is beautiful! She looks very happy to be A & M's new mascot!

I am still disappointed that we did not go to the tractor idea or putting a leash on one, or all, of the yell leaders.

Sherry. You must not have been keeping up with the Reveille story, so here's the scoop! Rev. 7 bit her handler, hence the muzzle. You should have known that, so don't judge when you don't know the facts.

VII had a strap holding her mouth because she was biting and snapping. If you were here a while back, you'll recall VI never wore a muzzle. Congrats to 'Kelly' on being our new Rev! She's beautiful and already fits the part. Just LOOK at her!! :)

Thanks for keeping with traditions.

She's just absolutely beautiful! I still think a sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog) would have also made a wonderful choice. We wish her all the best!
