A body found in the search for a missing Madison County man has yet to be identified. The Madison County Sheriff's Department says it could be Friday, when they find out if it's the body of Gene Coleman.

Coleman was last seen August 8th, and foul play is suspected.

Family members of Coleman organized the Saturday search including search teams from Bryan and Travis County.

The body was found in a pond about a quarter-mile from where Coleman's car was found on Dawkins Road.

Both the Madison County Sheriff's Department and Texas EquuSearch tell News Three they did not search that area.

The body along with X-rays of Coleman have been sent to the medical examiner's office in Conroe. A sheriff's official says the body was too badly decomposed to identify on sight.

I doubt anyone knows yet, but it was probably accidental drowning. People are to quick to point the finger and jump to conclusions. God rest his soul.

Agnie, Normangee should have the same signs.

Madison County should place a billboard at each county line with the following invitation. "Welcome, criminals, drug dealers and other lawless persons. Do not worry about prosecution in our county. You may be arrested, but won't be detained for long. Not much of a fine, either".

It is obvious something is wrong in this area. I don't live there so I can't really speak but too many people are saying the same thing regarding crime & drugs so there is something to that. We all know officials/police in general don't get paid well for what they do so who knows. Maybe they are doing the best they can. The Mayor/Sheriff are elected officials so take action & get rid of them if needed. If they are being bought off every dog has his day and if they are guilty it is a matter of time before they are exposed. If nothing else good comes from Gene missing it will be the awareness that things need to change there. Change comes from within so people have to make that happen. Don't just be a spectator be a participator. We know that Gene had issues but who doesn't? we all have battles within ourselves drugs are one of the saddest. It is God's job to judge him & no one elses. We must all answer for what we do in this life. Always give respect and you will get it back. :

Sounds like the FBI needs to investigate Madison county!

Thomas clearly has a bone to pick with all of law enforcement, he has been on and around this entire site slinging mud at the police and anyone who would stand up to defend them.

Why would they not even search the area where Mr. Coleman's truck was??? Seems to me that should have been the first place searched. 1/4 mile is not very far and if they suspected foul play why not look for obvious locations - like a pond. Kinda strange to me!!

Thomas I agree with you, but please watch your back ,they will put blame on you for something you didn't do to cover their tracks.

To Thomas,DJ,and Watching- It must make you feel good to blame lawenforcement for all the drug problems. If you see all this going on at the Apartments why do you not group up and meet with the apartment manager who i know is there on Mondays and tell that person which apartment the drugs are coming out of. If that doesnt work, then contact his/her supervisor Its possible that person maybe getting paid off by the dealers. Most of your buyers are local teenage kids. why not call their parents, obviously they dont know what there kids are doing. Could be yours. Donot blame your local or county officers, they do the best they can. I moved to this town about ten years ago and i have seen this town change for the better. Just think what would it be like if you did not have any lawenforcement as you may have seen in the years there was none here.

To Moops and DJ, it's a sad shame but I truly do believe that is what's happening to the police there. They apparently must be on the dealers payroll. Sounds like the citizens need to remember this come next sheriff election and bring in someone that will truly fight the crime instead of pocketing the payoffs.

DJ and DW - Normangee cops (there are only 2) aren't turning a blind eye to drugs, they know what goes on but as soon as they bust people there are 2 more to take their place. Better to deal with the people you know than outside influences. The Mad Co and Leon Co sheriffs never come to town unless something big happens. The only reason that one house was busted because a guy was working a plea on a burglary.

To Thomas and DJ: Sounds like Hearne. Dope families run the city. Dope money, Dope cops, Dope officials, Dope city!

Thank you Katrina C for your post -- only if there were other people like you that saw it the same way. Some people will never realize their inconsiderate comments until something like this happens to their family and no matter what wrong doings Gene made in his life EVERYONE makes mistakes and deserves justice!

Posted by: DJ Location: College Station on Sep 3, 2008 at 08:34 AM
To Thomas - we moved here from a very small town that was taken over by drug dealers, etc. Many of the law enforcemnet officials were making as much money as the dealers by being paid off to turn their heads. I know this because a friend of mine, who was also a police officer, was threatened with her life and her son's life because she kept busting the dealers and users. She was not threatened by the dealers, but by her supervisors in law enforcement.

The LAW knows who is selling. Citizens have told the LAW. Look how look it took for the house on the North side of Normangee to be busted. Citizens had told the LAW for years. The apartments, LAW knows who is selling and does nothing.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I know that Mr. Coleman's character has been challenged with drug use, by many other posters in the past, but that will never make this any less of a tragedy. All of my blessings and time will heal your pain. I hope that you will soon know the results of the M.E. so you will at least have some closure, even if it wasn't the outcome that you wanted. Knowing is always better than not knowing in these cases.

If Madison and Leon Counties would get off their butts and start patrolling and busting these drug dealers in Normangee, these senseless acts of violence, prostitution, and drug dealing will cease. Normangee is pretty much run by these thugs and it's a shame that these two counties cannot pull their resources and end the crimes that go on in this very small town. When is it going to end? Makes you question the leadership behind the police and sheriff departments. If these elected officials won't clean that town up, then why are they in office?
