Brazos Valley Burn Bans: The following counties are under a Burn Ban: Austin, Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Houston, Lee, Leon, Madison, Milam, Robertson, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Washington
The jury has spoken in the murder trial of a 20-year-old accused of killing a Navy serviceman outside the Texas Renaissance Festival. After weeks of testimony, a Grimes County jury began deliberating the fate of Brent Noland.
For two weeks the state has said Noland intentionally fatally stabbed Brandon Smith. Tuesday afternoon the jury agreed, dismissing the defenses claims that Noland acted in self-defense. The prosecution and Smith's family said they were happy with the verdict.
"I'm excited, happy for the victim's family, and excited about the punishment phase tomorrow," Grimes County District Attorney Tuck McLain said.
The punishment phase begins at 9 a.m., Wednesday morning. Noland faces up to 99 years or life in prison.
