Brazos County Commissioners have approved a burn ban.

The ban, effective Tuesday, will last 90 days or longer if dry conditions persist. Commissioners will revisit the issue at meetings through the next 90 days to decide whether the ban will remain in effect.

Commissioners decided against a fireworks ban at this time.

The decision comes a day after a grass fire burned about two dozen acres of land at Texas A&M. Local firefighters also worked a fire in the county off Sandy Point Road which destroyed some 30 hay bales.

College Station fire officials, who took the lead on the A&M fire Monday, say they have worked more than double the number of grass fires they worked last year at this point.

Leon and Madison counties already have burn bans in effect.
Waller county will decide whether to implement a ban on Thursday.
