Just like Bryan and College Station, the city of Madisonville will soon have zoning decisions of their own.
Tuesday evening, in a 4-to-1 vote, the council approved an ordinance that creates zones for the city effective December 1. A planning and zoning commission will hear any requests for rezoning, followed by the city council.
A task force made up of local residents spent the last few months creating the zoning ordinance, with sections for different kinds of residential, industrial and commercial classifications.
Officials say the move is consistent with their long-term vision for growing the Madisonville community. The city is just over four miles square miles and has a population around 4,000.
