An early morning fire destroyed a Brazos County home Friday.
According to fire officials the fire broke out around 1 a.m. in the 7000 block of Deer Trail.

"It was kind of hurtful seeing all that stuff," Homeowner Anna Ramirez said. "You accumulate so much over the years then you walk in there and everything was ashes, that hurt."

It was Ramirez's 11-year-old daughter Clarissa who smelled the smoke.

"My daughter came into the room and told us the house was on fire and then we all ran out," Ramirez said.

Anna's husband, brother, sister, father, and niece were all sleeping inside the house at the time.
The fire started near a water heater outside Clarissa's room.

"She was good and she was the hero," Ramirez said. "If it wasn't for her we wouldn't be here."

The fire left little behind.
The Ramirez's must now sift through charred books and melted toys, salvaging what they can.
Anna Ramirez says this chapter of her life has ended, and another will begin.

"We'll start all over again and from the bottom," Ramirez said. "We're going to start all over."

Fire officials say an exact cause has not been determined.
