Broken windows, damaged buildings and downed fences were left behind after tornado like winds ripped through College Station.

Portions of the Brazos Valley remained under a tornado watch until 8pm on Friday night.

Severe damage was reported at the Firestone Tire and Service Center in College Station. Strong winds blew out two huge glass doors. Some of the people there did suffer minor injuries mostly from glass.

Bart Humphries, College Station Fire Department, says only minor injuries were reported throughout the city.

Just around the corner from Firestone but also on Texas Avenue, high winds tore through the Parkway shopping center. Signs were blown apart, including the large one for McDonald's. Several of the shops in the center had damage on the exteriors. China King Buffet was hit on both the front and the back of the store. Portions of it's roof were wrecked from the wind.

There were also reports of blown out windows at Once Upon a Child, 2200 Texas Ave. South.

Farther south in the city Doux Chene Apartments on 2818 were hit hard. Large sections of the roof blew off. Siding on some of the buildings was ripped from the frames. One resident said his balcony was completely torn from the building. No word yet on how many residents were displaced.

Today at approximately 1530 hours College Station Police and Fire Dispatch received calls that a tornado had been spotted in the area of Longmire Drive and Harvey Mitchell Parkway. We have confirmed damage in a path from Wolf Pen Car Wash on Harvey Road to homes in the area of Van Horn and Deacon Drives in the Southwood Valley subdivision.

There have been no major injuries reported and the only confirmed injuries appear to be cuts from broken glass. Listed below is a short list of incidents and damage that has been confirmed.

* Lightening strike caused a fire at Curry Plumbing on Old Rock Prairie Road – minor damage.

* Structure damage to at least 4 buildings at the Doux Chene Apartment complex on Harvey Mitchell Parkway – no confirmed injuries.

* Gas leak at an apartment on Southwood Drive – gas shut off.

* Roof damage to China King Restaurant in the 2400 block of Texas Avenue South.

* Damage to several businesses in the shopping center located in the 2200 block of Texas Avenue South.

* Gas meter ripped out by wind behind the shopping center located in the 2200 block of Texas Avenue South causing a major gas leak.

* Transformer fire at same location. Gas has been shut off and the situation is under control.

* Reported damage to Goody’s, Ross Dress for Less and Wolf Pen Car Wash.

At this time the College Station Police Department and the College Station Fire Department are requesting that residents that do not need to leave their homes this evening, remain indoors and refrain from driving. Emergency crews are still working to access damage. There are also reports of downed power lines in the area that residents need to be aware of.
