Huntsville Police announced late Thursday afternoon they have made an arrest in the stabbing death of John Wayne McCrary, 22, of Shepherd.

McCrary was attacked early December 30,2009 in the parking lot of a Huntsville Nightclub and later died of multiple stab wounds.

Cody Ray Walters, 21, of Shepherd turned himself in at the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Department at 4:30 P.M. Tuesday afternoon after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He bonded out of jail that same day around 5:45 P.M.

Investigators say the motive for the crime is uncertain, and the investigation continues.

Huntsville Police say the arrest was the result of the diligence of numerous investigators and the assistance of concerned citizens in coming forward with information pertinent to the investigation.

The Huntsville Police received assistance in the investigation from the Sam Houston State University Police Department, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, the Trinity Police Department, the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department, and the Texas Rangers, with significant
assistance from local Ranger Steve Jeter.
