COLLEGE STATION A Medal of Honor recipient is being honored at Texas A&M's Memorial Student Center.
The name and likeness of Clarence E. Sasser was added to the university's Medal of Honor, Hall of Honor at the MSC.
Sasser attended A&M on a scholarship after his heroic service as an Army medic in Vietnam.
In January of 1968 Sasser helped evacuate soldiers wounded in a helicopter crash in a flooded rice paddy.
Even though he was injured, he carried one of the wounded to cover and returned for more.
Thursday afternoon he was honored during a campus ceremony.
In remarks to the crowd, Sasser said, "You are giving me something that most people never get. They get their flowers after death. While I've been close, couple of times, particularly here lately, but we always end up getting our flowers after we're gone. To me, this is my flowers while I'm still here."
Sasser becomes the 8th Aggie to be added to the Medal of Honor, Hall of Honor section in A&M's Memorial Student Center.
The Medal of Honor is the nation's highest award for valor in combat.
