It was a tragic scene Sunday afternoon as police investigated a fatal car accident. The car that Todd and Cheli Greene were driving collided head on with another vehicle.
Killed in that wreck was 8- year-old Michael Greene.
Monday morning, his parents were told the terrible news in their hospital room. Both have major injuries from the crash, but are in fair condition.
Now they're left to pick up the pieces.
They're not alone either. The small community of Anderson is reeling after hearing the tragic news. Michael Greene was a second grader at Anderson-Shiro Elementary. One of 60 students in that grade, the teachers and staff there are preparing for rough day back at school.
"It's a very tight-knit school district," says Anderson-Shiro ISD Superintendent Brandon Core.
"It's a very tight-knit school. So everyone, whether they're a current teacher, former teacher or just someone who knew Michael from the hallways, everyone was greatly, greatly affected."
In a letter that will be sent home tomorrow with students the superintendent also says "this will be a very difficult time for our community, our district, and, especially, our elementary school. Please know that we are doing everything possible to care for our students during this challenging time."
The school district says there will be grief counselors available to any student or staff member that may need someone to talk to.
Bryan police say they are planning to reconstruct the accident at a date to be determined.
