Slick roads and black ice threatened driver’s safety and travel plans Tuesday morning. Whether you were heading east or west on State Highway 21 in between Caldwell and Bryan, drivers were hitting rough patches of black ice and sliding off the road.
"We were sliding at Highway 47 and Highway 21," said passenger, Robert Calderon.
Robert Calderon and his friend got an early start to Caldwell Tuesday morning but their travel plans came to a halt after hitting several patches of black ice just a few miles east of Burleson County.
“The car started to slide again and so we decided to stop and wait a little,” Calderon explained.
At least 11 vehicles including 18-wheelers were pulled over on the shoulder of State Highway 21 in between CR 208 and 213; and I spoke to many drivers off camera who say they weren't taking any chances.
The driver of this pick-up appeared to have walked away unscathed after rolling his truck several times before landing upside down in a field. It's just one of many accidents along this stretch of the highway that TXDot and law enforcement officials were keeping a close eye on.
