BRYAN - Three Bryan Firefighters were selected for the 2013 Firehouse Magazine Heroism Award. Lieutenant Greg Pickard, Firefighter Ricky Mantey, and Firefighter Mitch Moran were honored for their service at the 2013 Knights of Columbus Hall Fire.
The annual Firehouse Magazine Heroism Award is the largest of its kind in the United States and recognizes firefighters who exhibit heroic acts in the line of duty.
"When the rescue situation developed, the members of Engine 5 knew the personal risk they were taking in entering the structure, but none of them were willing to leave one of their own behind. Each of the men exhibited extreme heroism through their selfless actions during this rescue effort," Firehouse Magazine stated in recognition of the award.
Earlier this year, Fire Engineering Magazine honored Lt. Pickard posthumously with a 2014 Ray Downey Courage and Valor Award for the same incident.
"We are very proud of the recipients and honored by these awards," Randy McGregor, Bryan Fire Chief said.
