BRYAN - New places to eat, sleep, and shop are popping up all over Bryan as the city sees a boom in economic development.
News 3 has a look at three new businesses opening this week and what else is coming our way.
Across Bryan from the east side to west side signs of new businesses are showing up.
From January to May the city issued 24 commercial construction permits, more than double compared to the same period last year.
"I get a lot of customers come in like, 'Hey I'm glad y'all opened this store, it's so more convenient,'" said Wesley Kline, a battery and bulbs salesman with Batteries Plus Bulbs.
They are one of the newest stores to open by the west side Walmart off F-M 2818.
"Some people live down there in Downtown Bryan it's hard for them to drive all the way to College Station to get what they need, so this store really helps out the people down here in this area," Kline said.
Some new additions to the west side Walmart include a new Sprint Store, Panda Express, Great Clips, and AT&T.
Great Clips is making their finishing touches for Friday's grand opening while on Thursday the new McDonald's on Highway 6 at Briarcrest Drive opens.
Just north of there at the Old Tony Roma's, Imperial Chinese Restaurant opens Wednesday.
A new 89 room Candlewood Suites is going up next to the Hilton Garden Inn on East University Drive and some new luxury apartments by the new McDonald's.
Kevin Russell, Bryan's Economic Development Director says they've been busy.
"I think it's a combination of the economy is better, but I also think that there is some influx of like the oil field a lot of the oil field things are going on so there's money available... I think now they're realizing it's a good time to invest in property and they're doing it," Russell said.
More places to shop and stop as the city grows.
Russell says a Kreuz Market BBQ Restaurant is coming soon to the Boonville Road area near Highway 6.
He says several hotel chains are also looking at building hotels on East University Drive.
