SAN ANTONIO (AP) A man with a city permit to operate a candle store in San Antonio has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for running a prostitution ring from the site.
The San Antonio Express-News reports 23-year-old Joshua Louis Edwards initially fled to Costa Rica after pleading guilty last September in a plea deal. Edwards was sentenced Tuesday in San Antonio for aggravated promotion of prostitution.
Prosecutors say Edwards ran the prostitution ring out of the storefront operation. A tip about strange activity at the business led officers to Edwards.
San Antonio police investigated reports that only men were allowed to enter the usually locked store and that female employees opened the door.
Edwards had filed a permit with the city indicating the business would sell candles and accessories.
