A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for Milam, Robertson, and Leon Counties from 12am to 12pm THURSDAY. A strong cold front will reach the Brazos Valley by mid-afternoon to early evening WEDNESDAY. Mild temperatures are expected to sharply fall as strong, brisk north winds arrive. A scattered rain chance could turn into a scattered, wintry mix between 1am and Noon Thursday.
GLENDORA, Calif. (AP) A destructive wildfire above foothill suburbs northeast of Los Angeles is largely reduced to smoke and scattered flames, but the charred landscape remains too dangerous for about 2,000 people to return home.
Fire officials say flare-ups occurred Friday within the 2½-square-mile burn area but none escaped the perimeter.
Some 3,700 residents of Glendora and neighboring Azusa were ordered to leave their homes at the height of the fire Thursday, when five homes were destroyed and 17 other structures were damaged.
Glendora residents have been allowed back but 850 homes in Azusa remain under evacuation orders.
Azusa police Lt. Paul Dennis says rocks are falling from burned hillsides onto an access road and flames are still showing.
Schools are keeping children indoors due to poor air quality.
