A former Texas A&M University employee has been arrested and charged with the theft of nearly $18,000 in university funds.
Texas A&M Police were notified by Texas A&M University System Internal Audit investigators regarding allegations initially arose against Courtnie Talent Nichols of Bryan, who was then employed by the Department of Residence Life. She was employed as an office associate at the University Apartments from July 2000 until she resigned in December 2013.
Nichols is accused of taking approximately $17,894 in cash rent payments from University Apartments tenants from July 2012 to September 2013.
University Police investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Nichols Tuesday, February 4th, and she turned herself in at the Brazos County Jail earlier Thursday. Her bond has been set at $5,000.
Theft of up to $20,000 is a state jail felony, punishable by a prison term of up to two years and/or a $10,000 fine. The case has been turned over to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution.
