Guadalupe County Judge Michael Thomas Wiggins has been arrested in College Station for possession of marijuana.

Wiggins, 58, was attending a conference for county judges and commissioners at the Hilton Hotel Sunday. According to College Station Police, a bellman smelled burnt marijuana coming from the fifth floor of the hotel.

Police reports state hotel security called police and CSPD determined the smell was coming from Wiggins' room.

Wiggins reportedly told police that the marijuana was in a duffel bag against the wall of the room and allowed the officer to search the bag.

Police found a silver grinder, rolling papers and a plastic bag of marijuana. Wiggins admitted to police that it belonged to him.

Wiggins was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana less than two ounces. He bonded out an hour later on $3,000 bond.

Wiggins, who also served as Seguin's Department of Public Safety sergeant, told the Seguin Gazette Thursday afternoon that there was nothing he could deny.

"It is what it is," he said.

The judge said he would talk more about the incident on Friday.

According to the Seguin Gazette, Wiggins has received high accolades during his time as county judge. He received the annual county judges community service award at the 2010 County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas annual conference in Waco.

Wiggins also served as Seguin's Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Sergeant and was president of the DPS Officer's Association.

Seguin, near San Antonio, is the seat of Guadalupe County.
